Annual Conference and Vedabhajan – Summary

The 1230th Annual Conference and Vedabhajan of Sree Raghavapuram Sabhayogam was well conducted at Kannisseri kavu in Cheruthazham, Kannur district, Kerala.  The conclave held during 22nd to 28th January 2024 was attended by various Vedic pandits, and well known personalities from spiritual, cultural and political spheres.The functions started on 22nd with Ashtadravya Ganapathy havan and was concluded with Devi mahatmya Paarayana on 28th.

As part of Veda bhajan, Rigveda chanting was done by Sarvasri. Narayana mangalam Agnisharman Namboodiri, Thiruthimukku Vasudevan Namboodiri Puralipuram Sreedharan Namboodiri and Nabram Sreehari Namboodiri. Samaveda chanting was conducted by the group led by Brahmasri. Thottam Sivakaran Namboodiri. Yajurveda chanting was performed by a group of vaidikas consisting Sarvasri Pantal Vaidikan Damodaran Namboodiri, Koodapuzha Parameswaran Namboodiri, Kizhanallur Bhavan Namboodiri, Kizhanallur Yatheendran Namboodiri and Janala Periyamana Vadhyan Kesavan Namboodiri. Students of Sree Raghavapuram Sabhayogam Veda Patasalas participated in Yajus and Samaveda chanting. There was also Yajurveda Murahomam and Varam, traditional veda devotions, in all three Vedas.

On 26th, the Annual conference was inaugurated by Sri. Adv. Alok Kumar, international working president of Viswa Hindu parishad. HH Sreemad Parameswara Brahmananda Theertha Swamiyar, the Senior pontiff of Thrikkaikattu matom presided. Sri Alok Kumar also laid the foundation stone for the proposed Vedavidya Mandir. Sringeri Sri Sharada Peetam administrator, Padmasri Dr. V R Gaorisankar was the Chief Guest.

HH Edaneer Matom Swamiyar Sreemad Sachidananda Bharathi and HH Badrinath Rawal Brahmasri. V C Easwara Prasad Namboodiri blessed the function. The highest award arranged by the Sabhayogam for the Vedic Scholars namely Srothriya Ratnam was presented to Vaidikan Brahmasri. Pandal Damodaran Namboodiri by Kolarhiri Raja Uthrttathi Thirunal Rama Varma.

On 27th the Sastra vichara sadassu was inaugurated by Brahmasri. Kuzhikkad Akkerimon Kalidasa Bhattathiri. Dr. Kopankulam Vishnu Somayaji presided. Various SMEs made presentations on the topic Astrology and Climate. In the cultural meet held on 28th January Dr. V Govindan Namboodiri, Philosopher & patron of Sabhayogam presided.  Swamiyar of Naduvil Matom Sreemad Achutha Bharathi blessed the gathering while Sri. Kummanom Rajasekharan, former Governor of Missoram, was the chief guest.

Representing 30 area committees formed in all the 14 districts of Kerala, a lot of well-wishers and members attended the week-long function. Around 4000 devotees took food during these days. This year we were fortunate to perform a lot of sevas like Kalabha Archana at Sree Raghavapuram Temple, Ganpati havan, Aruna namaskaram,  Aswamedha namaskaram, Sahasranama laksharchana, Bhagavathi seva, Bhagavatha chanting and Kalasha pooja.

There were also various other traditional cultural programs and presentations including music concerts, Kathakali etc that enthused the public. The decorations were simple but attractive showing the relevance of natural materials used traditionally. Planting of medicinal trees was organized on Ayodhya Pran Pratishta day i.e., 22nd January. Most of the participants and VIPs were particular about bowing their heads in front of the Adi Shankara Statue installed recently. The VIPs were given a gift-kit containing the notebooks prepared by the Sabhayogam unit run by the physically challenged. The ghee prasadam preserved during the veda chanting was also distributed to the devotees. Various developmental works were done in the Kannisseri kavu campus in connection with the Annual conference and vedabhajan. The whole function was organized in a budget of Rs. 16 lakhs collected through donation by the veda devotees.

Shortly, this year’s annual conference was upholding the message of the Sabhayogam. The conference and vedabhajan were so in the strict sense of the term and have been a boost to carry our dharmic activities further. In 2024-25, Sabhayogam is planning to focus on constructing Vedavidya Mandir for 100 vedic students, Dharma Gaushala for taking care of minimum 100 aged indigenous cows, and renovation of 1200 year old Shankaracharya Matom at Trichambaram in Kannur district.
