Sreeraghavapuram Sangeetha Sabha conducted Carnatic music study class (Saraswathamrutham) from May 10th to 14th 2023 at Kannadi bhagavathar Nagar Kesavatheeram Puracheri, Kannur District Kerala. The study class was on “Navaavarana” authored by Muthuswamy Deekshithar, the giant of Carnatic music.
The inaugural session was started by Samaveda chanting. Padmasree Kaithapram Damodaran Namboodiri formally inaugurated the Study class. He emphasised the need of students be concious on the Swara also along with the Sruthi, thala & laya.
Carnatic musician and Sreeraghavapuram Advisory council member Dr. Thamarasseri Easwaran Bhattathiri presided. He explained the literal, grammatical and tunes of the Deekshithar’s work in general and Navaavarana works in particular.
He opined Deekshithar was also a tantrik expert and to explain the Godess seated in Sreechakra he applied different concepts and tune which deserve deep study due to its peculiarities and depth.
Carnatic musician Sri T P Srinivasan, Kesavatheeram Hospital MD Sri Vishnu Namboodiri, Sreeraghavapuram Sangeetha Sabha secretary Govinda Prasad, member M p Sunil and Sabhayogam Secretary Hari Namboodiri spoke on the occasion. Thamarakad Govindan Namboodiri monitored the sessions.
The Study class was residential and totally in traditional style. Daily sessions were started at morning 5.00am till 12 noon. Evening sessions were from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. In between, doubt clarifications were allowed. There were music programmes as an encouragement to the students.
The concluding session was inaugurated by Dr. Thamarasseri Easwaran Bhattathiri. Different dignitaries spoke on the occassion and blessed the event with their presence.
